Discover Carlisle

Paul Walker, Destination Manager at Carlisle City Council, commissioned us to create a short promotional video to promote the city in a new light, and also to showcase the different attractions throughout the year. The goal was to create an eye-catching and engaging video to support their place promotion through Discover Carlisle Channels to UK and international markets.  The end product was to be distributed and launched in Spring 2020.

We worked on a plan that incorporated all the key events and attractions across the Carlisle district. We worked hard to capture footage of the wide range of events and attractions from "Clash of the Romans" at Birdoswalds to city centre concerts (including stars such as John Newman and Jess Glynne). We crowned it off with the inspiring "City of Lights festival".

The 2020 promotional video took 11 months to film and presented some challenging logistics which we enjoyed overcoming. From the weather (this is Cumbria after all!) to managing venues and models, to ensuring the footage conveyed the best of all the events whilst creating a blended finish, we worked hard to deliver the perfect package. Throughout the year we kept in constant communication with Paul Walker and appreciated such a great relationship with his department.

The Project was completed in March 2020. As we all know the world was hit by the pandemic that has caused so much devastation. We couldn't launch this video for our planned date and so we had to wait until the moment was right and the UK lockdown started to ease. The video was finally launched at the beginning of July 2020 and the reaction has been overwhelming. We were delighted to be told by Paul that the video had increased online engagement by 80% and that English Heritage reported to him that Carlisle Castle is now their busiest site in the North largely thanks to this promotion. The feedback from this showed how special the city of Carlisle truly is. We can't help but be over the moon with social media comments such as "Fantastic video of what our City has to offer", "A rather fine portrait of the 2000 Year City: Carlisle!", and "Who wouldn't want to come live in Carlisle!"

The Success of this video has also led to a strong collaboration with Discover Carlisle and has resulted in another 8 videos. More are in the pipeline, and we are excited to continue our collaboration with Paul's dynamic team. You can take a spin through the videos below.
